Mimi version 2 and Me-Made-May 2015!!

Helloooo! I was aiming for blog posts every Tuesday, but this week got away from me. Back to school, so very little time for frivolous fun such as blogging! Just one day late isn't too bad, though. I made a new Mimi! You remember the disaster ? Made the Mimi blouse from Tilly and the Buttons, but WAAAAAY too big, as a result of muddling up my measurements. But I did like it, and I thought it would suit me. So I had another go: It fits! I lurve the colour, and the grey buttons are a bit cool too (although one of my year 10s asked me why I chose them because they looked stupid - I'm not going to take it personally). Apologies for the creasing - there's a story for that... The first time I wore this was at my baby sisters' 18th birthday lunch (yep - the same one Mr M wore his waistcoat ), but I had so much fun I failed to take a picture. It's a shame as it was a beautiful day. I then planned to wear it some time the next week, but it needed ironing and I w...

A perfect waistcoat!

It isn't often that I have a sewing project that doesn't have any hiccups at all. One of my recent projects was one of those rare occasions. Good fabric choice, good fit and I didn't misread any instructions! There was one teeny issue that I'll explain below (not my fault!!). Here it is (modelled by Mr M!): Dapper!! I used the pattern from 'Great British Sewing Bee - Sew your own Wardrobe'. Tracing the pattern was a bit confusing as there were a couple of typos on the pattern sheet - some pieces were labelled XS-L, and others were labelled S-XL. Since the instructions said that only S-XL were available, I decided to assume that the pieces labelled 'XS' were actually supposed to be 'S'. It turned out I was right - phew! Mr M proudly chose the buttons, although I admit I directed a little in terms of fabric. He wore it for a family lunch we had recently to celebrate my little sisters' 18th birthday. Many compliments received! Here is...

It's been a while...

So my last post was in October... and I said I was super busy, but about to attempt a burdastyle skirt. Which totally bombed. Seriously. A disaster. Bad fit, bad fabric choice, even bad thread choice (I thought metallic thread would look super cool... not if it just snaps and knots, unfortunately!). So that put me off a bit. Then work got CRAZY. Then we decided we were going to move across the country to be nearer family. Job hunting, house hunting, paperwork... It has been bonkers.  So there. Those are my reasons for my incredibly poor attendance in the blogosphere. Must do better. The good news is that I've now got a job, bought a house and can settle back into my last term at my school without quite so much on my plate. And with that relaxation and a big deep breath... I got my sewing mojo back!! Here is a photo of my sewing room floor right now:  The shame!! Yep. A total state. My mother would be ashamed of me. Each of those little heaps is a project. ...
