A perfect waistcoat!
It isn't often that I have a sewing project that doesn't have any hiccups at all. One of my recent projects was one of those rare occasions. Good fabric choice, good fit and I didn't misread any instructions! There was one teeny issue that I'll explain below (not my fault!!).
Here it is (modelled by Mr M!):
I used the pattern from 'Great British Sewing Bee - Sew your own Wardrobe'. Tracing the pattern was a bit confusing as there were a couple of typos on the pattern sheet - some pieces were labelled XS-L, and others were labelled S-XL. Since the instructions said that only S-XL were available, I decided to assume that the pieces labelled 'XS' were actually supposed to be 'S'. It turned out I was right - phew!
Mr M proudly chose the buttons, although I admit I directed a little in terms of fabric. He wore it for a family lunch we had recently to celebrate my little sisters' 18th birthday. Many compliments received!
Here is the model pose:
I'm now planning another one with purple lining. I'm hoping to have some success with pattern matching soon. I always prioritise the efficient use of fabric over pattern matching, but the waistcoat uses so little I can probably justify it.
Oh, also... I bought enough to make matching trousers to go with this waistcoat... Mr M isn't keen - what do you think?!
Emily.
