It's been a while...

So my last post was in October... and I said I was super busy, but about to attempt a burdastyle skirt. Which totally bombed. Seriously. A disaster. Bad fit, bad fabric choice, even bad thread choice (I thought metallic thread would look super cool... not if it just snaps and knots, unfortunately!).

So that put me off a bit. Then work got CRAZY. Then we decided we were going to move across the country to be nearer family. Job hunting, house hunting, paperwork... It has been bonkers.

So there. Those are my reasons for my incredibly poor attendance in the blogosphere. Must do better.

The good news is that I've now got a job, bought a house and can settle back into my last term at my school without quite so much on my plate. And with that relaxation and a big deep breath... I got my sewing mojo back!!

Here is a photo of my sewing room floor right now:
The shame!!
Yep. A total state. My mother would be ashamed of me. Each of those little heaps is a project. Either halfway complete or not yet started. If I showed you the shelves (I'm too ashamed of the shelves to show you), you would see more of the same. However, it shows how much I've got my mojo back now that the work/job hunting/house hunting stress is over!

So onto the latest complete project. It was my birthday a couple of weeks ago and I was given a signed copy of the Tilly and the Buttons book by my in-laws! Yay! Since then I've been busting to have a go at something, so I dived in at the deep end with the Mimi Blouse.

The instructions are beautiful. The patterns are really easy to use as everything you need is on one pattern sheet. The sizing was my only issue. I was so enthused by the task that I muddled up my bust and hip measurements. 100cm bust makes me a size 6, by Tilly's measurements. But when I thought I was 111cm bust (actually my hip measurement), I made a size 8.

And I made a size 8 lovingly. Slowly. I took an entire day over it. I did all the gathering the correct way, not the lazy way. I handstitched the facings down, instead of lazily topstitching. I put blood sweat and tears into this blouse. Well, not the tears. But blood:
Ouch!
So imagine my horror after hours and hours of toil, to find that it is rather large on me:
When Mr M. saw me, he laughed. :(
So after a bit of a strop, I texted a pic to my ever-stylish Mum. It may fit her. Then it will be worth the love and blood spent on it.

And I can go fabric shopping to make another. Yay!

There will be more blog posts to come. I have lots of making up to do, and work starts back next Monday, so I need to get everything done fast!!
