Me-Made-May 2015 - Day 1
First day of MMM15! And a Friday - phew!! My work BFF has abandoned me to have a baby, so I've been pining all week. The kids keep asking me 'Miss, are you grumpy because Mrs C is gone?' and I'm like....Shut up and do your work. *cries*.
But I've made it through the week. And I refused to leave work until my desk was clear and I'd sorted some stuff out for next week, so feeling ready for next week. And BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY! Hooray!!
This is a mid-calf length skirt. It is (was - I've made a couple more now) my first pattern made exactly from my measurements (using the Winifred Alrich book), and although I'm delighted with it, there are definitely some issues. But first the positives:
I'm fairly pleased with the darts in this. They're all fairly symmetrical and pressed out really nicely.
Now here's a positive and a negative in a single shot:
I sewed the hooks and eyes all wrong. In fact, they're so wrong that they come undone fairly regularly. I will need to fix this at some point, but for now I'm too lazy.
And another positive and negative in one shot:
My sewing class is at a local college. They have overlockers. I was organised enough with this to take it into college and overlock both the main fabric and the lining! Pretty swish, huh?!
But unfortunately there is one BIG negative to this skirt... If you want a dress to reach your mid calves... and you want to be able to walk in it... it needs a kick pleat/slit of some form. I have been walking like a geisha all day. Shuffle shuffle. Tiny steps. (Should have taken pics to show the hilariously tiny steps I have to take...sorry!).
I also was too lazy to interface the waistband, so it has a tendency to fold up on my waist.
But nevertheless, I do really like this skirt! I like how well it fits over my hips, and I like the length. I think I'll make some more at some point. :)
Hope you're enjoying the first day of May!
Emily.

Overlocking! And mismatched thread because I ran out of white. |
