Me-Made-May 2015 - Day 2
This morning, as I was heading out to Park Run, I had this sudden guilt that I was leaving the house without any me-made garments! But running gear is far in the distance in terms of my sewing ability. So I did my run, showered and headed back out again for brunch in this me-made shirt:
The fabric combo was fished out of the bargain bin at my local haberdashery. I thought it'd make a super cool shirt - the 2 colourways together. Unfortunately it is a bit too bold for me and I don't really like it, although it was worse before I sewed the buttons on. Also, for the second time in a row, I was too lazy to interface, so the collar is a bit flopsy. Lesson learned. I have just bought the makings of a jacket, and I made a point of buying heaps of interfacing. I will not make the same mistake three times!

Eggs Royale - breakfast of my dreams |
This shirt was a long time coming. I wanted to make a shirt for ages, then bought this pattern (Simplicity 1538) on an impulse, before I really had thought about what makes a shirt suit me. As a result, this doesn't really suit me. There are bust darts, but no other shaping. I also failed to realise how important it is that a shirt is the right size. This just fits me on the bust (there is a little gap-age when I stretch, but I think that's inevitable), but it is too wide on the shoulders, too narrow on the hips and saggy on the waist. Bit of a shame really.

I think this is a single wear item, I'm afraid. Not sure I want to wear it again. But other than the sleeves, it is all technically correct, so it was probably a good learning journey. Cuffs are fun - I enjoyed all the top stitching. Also, my first collar! I had never heard of a collar stand, so now I feel like I learned the lingo as well as the skills!
I'm sad that I didn't enjoy wearing this one. Not sure what I'm going to wear tomorrow, but I'm sure I'll like it better!
Emily.
